What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of natural relaxation or concentration in which the conscious mind becomes remote or detached from everyday cares and concerns.

To explain in more scientific terms, our consciousness cycles through different brain wave cycles to keep us in optimal mental shape.

These brain wave cycles are known as Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta. Each of these different states represents the activity of the conscious mind.

When we are in Beta state, we are wide awake, alert and ready for action.

The Alpha state is a more relaxed pace. We enter this state when watching tv or reading a book. In this state we become so focused on one thing, that we tune out what’s happening around us.

Then we have Theta state, this is the much deeper state where the work of hypnotherapy is completed. In this state you are deeply relaxed and can access sub-conscious memories. It is also a body healing state.

Delta state is our final deep sleep state. It is the state of healing and regeneration.

When I’m hypnotised can you make me do things against my will?

No. When you are in a state of hypnosis you will have full control, free will and be aware of everything going on around you.

Can I become stuck in hypnosis?

No. It is impossible to become “stuck” in a state of hypnosis. You are completely aware throughout the process and continue to have free will.

Am I asleep or unconscious when in hypnosis?

Hypnosis is not sleep!

Your body will feel deeply relaxed like it’s asleep, but your subconscious mind is present and alert.
